Moorestown Friends School 225th Anniversary Events
Convocation Join us for the first in a series of events to commemorate the 225th Anniversary of MFS. Guest speakers will include Patrick Bassett, President of the National Association of Independent Schools and MFS alumnus and Senior Vice President of School Information Services, Mark Mitchell ’86. All-School Picnic Come out and be a part of this annual community-wide event. The picnic is a great opportunity to spend time with other MFS families, faculty and staff and to cheer on some of our sports teams. The boys varsity soccer team will take on Haddon Township and the girls varsity soccer team will play Abington Friends School. Both games begin at 2:30 p.m. The Friends Schools League championship girls soccer teams from 1995, 1996 and 1997 will be recognized as well. All School Parent Council Meeting and MFS Book Distribution Margaret Kirk, author of Doing Well and Doing Good: MFS at 225, will be on campus to sign copies of the book and to share her experiences and provide insight about our school’s history. Boston Area Alumni Gathering Alumni in the Boston area are invited to spend an evening in Beantown with member of the school community. The event will be a wonderful opportunity to connect with fellow alumni in the area. Philadelphia Museum Tour with Richard Marcucci Spend an afternoon touring exhibits at the Philadelphia Museum of Art with former Arts Department Chair Richard Marcucci. Round trip transportation* from MFS will be provided and the tour will be followed by a reception at the Greenleaf. *Those who wish to participate, but live in the Philadelphia area can sign up for the event without transportation. Alumni Soccer Game Come to play or cheer on the Saturday after Thanksgiving. All alumni are welcome. Young Alumni Dinner MFS invites college-age alumni back to campus every year for a dinner to reconnect with classmates as well as faculty and staff. Alumni Basketball Game Start the holiday season off at Friends. Each year alumni, faculty and staff come out to play and cheer. South Jersey Alumni/Community Event – Pinsetters Each year, MFS hosts a series of alumni gatherings in cities around the country. This year we are hosting a community-wide event here in South Jersey! Come spend an evening of food, fun and bowling at Pinsetters in Pennsauken, NJ. MLK Day of Service Be a part of the school community coming together to celebrate Dr. King through service. Volunteers of all ages gather at 10 a.m. at the school. The day begins in the Moorestown Friends Meeting House with Meeting for Worship in honor of Dr. King, coordinated by student members of the Upper School MLK, Jr. Club and the Upper School Service Committee, before beginning work on the projects at activity centers on campus. Activities will conclude by noon. Washington D.C. Area Alumni Gathering Parent Council Auction It’s an auction year! From vacation packages to gift certificates to class gifts, there is something for everyone at the auction. The biennial auction will be held at the Collingswood Ballroom and Scottish Rite Theater in Collingswood, NJ. Dozens of volunteers put in countless hours to make this evening special, and we hope you’ll be a part of the auction this year. Tours of local Meeting Houses with MFS Quaker educator Lynne Brick and Mt. Laurel Meeting historian, Jarry Jones Get a behind-the-scenes tour of the Mount Laurel and Medford Meeting Houses. Spend a morning learning the history and traditions of the Monthly Meetings and join us for a brunch at Braddocks Tavern. Alumni Weekend / Color Day Calling all Reds and Blues! For this year only, MFS is bringing back Color Day. A once long-standing tradition at the school, students were assigned the colors of red or blue, and the teams would compete in a series of field games in the spring. This year, students in all divisions will be assigned colors and will have the opportunity to earn points for their teams by participating in events throughout the year. Color Day will be the culminating event, and all members of the MFS community (current families and alumni) are encouraged to participate. Tour and Tea at Paulsdale Join us for an afternoon at the home of one of the school’s most notable alumna. MFS invites all members of the community to the home of Alice Paul, on Hooton Road in Mount Laurel. Now run by the Alice Paul Institute, Paulsdale was formerly owned by former faculty member and alumni parent, Miriam Feyerherm. This is a great opportunity to spend time exploring a local historical landmark with a direct connection to MFS. Commencement We will end our year-long celebration with Commencement for the Class of 2011 on the MFS Oval.
