Athletics Fall 2009 Sports News 11/3/09 Boys Soccer Wins First Round State Playoff Match A balanced attack led by junior Peter Barna lifted host Moorestown Friends School to a first-round NJSIAA Non-Public B South playoff victory over #10 seed Trenton Catholic on Tuesday. Barna assisted on junior Matt Tamburri’s goal in the 19th minute. The score remained 1-0 until the 67th minute when junior John Latimer, Barna and junior Keith Console scored in a three-minute span to insure the victory for the #7 seed Foxes. Senior Justin Stark made three saves to earn the shutout in goal for the Foxes. They will travel to Vineland on Friday to face #2 seed Sacred Heart at 2 p.m. 11/2/09 Girls Soccer Falls to St. Joseph's #9 seed St. Joseph’s scored once in the first half and twice in the second half to earn a 3-0 victory over host and #8 seed MFS in a first round NJSIAA Non-Public B South girls soccer match on Monday. 10/31/09 Foxes Fall to GFS in FSL Boys Soccer Semifinal Germantown Friends senior Manolo Sanchez scored once in each half to lift the #2 seed Tigers to a 2-0 victory over #3 seed MFS in a Friends Schools League (FSL) semifinal on Saturday. It was the Foxes first appearance in the FSL playoffs since 1999. 10/31/09 MFS Gives Battles Top-Seeded Shipley Into Overtime The #4 seed MFS Field Hockey team gamely battled top-seeded Shipley in their Friends Schools League semifinal on Saturday. Senior Heather Moore scored with three minutes remaining in regulation to tie the game and send it to overtime. The host Gators struck quickly in overtime to end the Foxes season. Fall Sports Update - 10/27/09 The Foxes varsity teams have been involved in plenty of playoff action already and the next week promises to provide more excitement on the fields, courts and race courses. Girls Tennis qualified for the NJSIAA Non-Public B South final, falling to Ranney School last week. They also qualified as the #4 seed in the Friends Schools League playoffs. The first two rounds of FSL individual championships take place Saturday. Field Hockey will host a first round NJSIAA Central Group I state playoff game Thurs., November 29 at 2 p.m. vs. Haddon Heights. The team has also earned the #4 seed in the FSL playoffs and will travel to Shipley to face the top seed at 2 p.m. Saturday. Boys Soccer has clinched an FSL playoff berth and, due to weather cancellations, does not know it’s FSL playoff opponent. The Foxes could be a #2 or #3 seed, with the most likely scenario seeing the team travel to Germantown Friends on Saturday at 2 p.m. A home state playoff game Tuesday also looks like a strong possibility. Girls Soccer expects to be seeded between #6-8 in the state playoffs and also has high hopes for a home playoff game which would take place on Monday. Boys and Girls Cross Country are preparing for the Parochial B South race to be held Saturday, November 7 at Delsea H.S. GO FOXES!
Field hockey, boys soccer and girls soccer will all compete in NJSIAA playoffs beginning in the next two weeks. The girls cross country team finished third and the boys cross country team finished sixth at the FSL championship meet held Tuesday at George School. Senior Emily Watts finished sixth in the girls race and junior Drew Haines finished seventh in the boys race. Both teams will now move on to regional and state competition. The girls tennis team fell in the NJSIAA Non-Public B South final to Ranney School, 4-1.
