WORLD LANGUAGES STUDENTS EARN NATIONAL HONORS

Eleven Students Earn National Honors in National French Contest

Eleven Moorestown Friends School students won awards in the National French Contest (NFC). The NFC is an annual exam open to every school in the country. Students are tested in the areas of listening and reading comprehension, as well as their understanding of grammatical structures. A total of 69 MFS students took the NFC exam in 2009.

More than 100,000 students nationally completed the exam this year. More than 3,000 students were from the Philadelphia area. Top rank national winners scored in the 85th percentile or above.

The following MFS students were top rank national winners: seniors Alison Barton and Ben Lasserre; sophomores Carolyn Chelius, Katherine Churchill, Amanda Connell, Val Demuynck, Karan Hiremath and Madison Taormina; freshman Maggie Fischer; and eighth graders Sarah Applegate and Emma Giordano.

Three Students Earn Gold Medals in National Spanish Exam

Three Moorestown Friends School students won gold medal placements for their excellent performance on the 2009 National Spanish Examinations, which were taken by 135,000 U.S. students this year. Gold medalists from MFS were sophomore Angel Mathew, freshman Ashleigh Cartwright and eighth grader Joseph Slawek. The National Spanish Examinations are administered annually in grades 7 through 12, and are sponsored by the American Association of Teachers of Spanish and Portuguese. Gold medal recognition goes to students scoring at or above the 95th percentile. MFS students won a total of 39 medals. Click here for the complete list.
