MFS News May 16, 2008 STUDENTS GARNER AWARDS IN NATIONAL FRENCH CONTEST
Fourteen Moorestown Friends School (MFS) students won awards in the National French Contest (NFC). The NFC is an annual exam open to every school in the country. Students are tested in the areas of listening and reading comprehension, as well as their understanding of grammatical structures. A total of 63 MFS students took the NFC in 2008. The 14 winners will be honored at an awards ceremony on May 21 at Chestnut Hill College. More than 100,000 students nationally completed the exam this year. More than 3,000 students were from the Philadelphia area. There are three awards categories: national winners (90th percentile or better across the nation), top rank local winners (90th percentile or better of local students), and honorable mention local winners (80th to 89th percentile of local students). The following MFS students were both national winners and top rank local winners: senior Kira Adams (Willingboro), sophomores Alison Barton (Riverton), Clara Fischer (Ewing), and Ben Lasserre (Marlton), and eighth graders Christine Cha (Moorestown), Katherine Churchill (Medford) and Karan Hiremath (Columbus). The following students were top rank local finishers: junior Sophia Demuynck (Mount Holly), freshman Liam Narozanick (Marlton), and eighth grader Katherine Sowa (Marlton). The following students were honorable mention local winners: eighth graders Valere Demuynck (Mount Holly), Anehita Oribabor (Pennsauken) and Sim Singh (Mount Laurel), and seventh grader Maggie Fischer (Ewing). The four MFS French teachers are Margot Fishman, Valerie Franz, Patricia Gilbert, and Emily Romero.
