13 MFS STUDENTS RECEIVE NATIONAL MERIT SCHOLARSHIP AND
NATIONAL ACHIEVEMENT SCHOLARSHIP RECOGNITION
Thirteen Moorestown Friends School seniors were recently recognized by the National Merit Scholarship® Program.
Moorestown resident Anthony Cordisco and Mount Laurel resident Laurien Gilbert were named National Merit Semifinalists. They are part of a group of approximately 16,000 high school seniors who are now eligible to apply to become Finalists. Additionally, eight students were named National Merit Commended Scholars: Sanjay Bhatt (Medford), Sarah Katz (Haddonfield), Alex Levy (Voorhees), Danielle Lynn (Cinnaminson), Sammi Ocher (Mount Laurel), David Sheffield (Mount Laurel), Julie Steinberg (Mount Laurel) and Nadia Washlick (Mount Laurel).
The 2005 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT) served as an initial screen for more than one million entrants to the National Merit Scholarship Program. Semifinalists are the highest scorers in each of the 50 states and represent less than one percent of each state’s high school seniors. National Merit Scholarship winners will be announced beginning in April and concluding in July.
Jennielle Jobson (Willingboro) was named a National Achievement® Scholarship Program Semifinalist. The National Achievement Program was created in 1964 specifically to honor academically talented Black American high school students. Jennielle is one of about 1,600 students selected from over 130,000 black students qualified for the competition. In addition, two students were named National Achievement Outstanding Participants: Ashley Whitehead (Willingboro) and Kyle Nocho (Voorhees). National Achievement Scholarship winners will be announced in April.
The National Merit Scholarship Program and National Achievement Scholarship Program are both conducted by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation.
