Strategic Plan 2011
Technology and Communications
Plan Goal #8: Develop a web portal for MFS students, parents, faculty, staff and alumni that provides an effective platform for school business, academic and operational functions; is consistent in appearance and navigation with the school’s public website; and offers a streamlined user experience.
Rationale
MFS has purchased Blackbaud’s Online Campus Community (OCC) to enhance the exchange of information and communications among school constituents and unify the currently separate public website for the school and the school’s Intranet site. The full implementation and integration of the OCC package will require effective planning and education, as well as human, financial and technology resources.
Strategies
- Establish an OCC implementation committee and charge it to build a timeline for implementation; examine additional human, financial and technology resources that may be needed to maximize the OCC; merge existing databases; and develop education and training programs appropriate for school constituents.
- Establish consistent minimum standards of electronic communication between the faculty/school and parents and also faculty and students. Consider standards for other external constituents including alumni, prospective families and vendors.
Plan Goal #9: Utilize new media and technology resources to enhance school communication and collaboration and to foster a more connected Moorestown Friends community.
Rationale
Students, parents, faculty, staff and alumni are the social infrastructure of the MFS community and serve as powerful resources for communicating messages from the school, including marketing themes to prospective families. MFS seeks to optimize the ability of school constituents to communicate – in a timely, responsible and efficient manner – appropriate and accurate school-related messages.
Strategies
- Assess student, faculty and school use of technology and social media resources and explore opportunities to improve communication within the MFS community.
- Review existing and develop new school policies on the appropriate and effective use of technology and social media.
- Explore the feasibility of creating and supporting a digital multimedia studio.
- Examine the feasibility of expanding informational, and possibly interactive, kiosks at strategic locations at MFS.
- Consider incorporating the devices (cell phone, laptop, etc.) of students, faculty and staff as an extension of the MFS communication infrastructure.
Plan Goal #10: Create a school culture that supports, facilitates and encourages technology and communication exploration, collaboration, research and innovation.
Rationale
Technology advancements and effective communications can be achieved by supporting a school culture that welcomes and rewards technology innovation and implementation.
Strategies
- Establish and benchmark standards of technological proficiency for students, faculty and staff, and maintain an effective level of technological competence in the faculty, staff and students that covers a multitude of areas and proficiencies.
- Provide incentives, including grants and recognition, to encourage innovative uses of technology and communication resources.
- Utilize professional development time and resources to foster innovation, educate constituents, provide technology training and updates, encourage communication, and highlight best practices.
- Provide the technological resources and support mechanisms for course-specific, student-to-student collaboration that can be effectively monitored by faculty.
